Community Spotlight: Moonshine Wellness
Doris Taylor sits comfortably in my studio playing with her cat and patiently waiting while I move lights and set decoration around for our next shot. She’s here to help me promote an upcoming session for the Seattle Area Feline Rescue we’re doing in February 2025.
But while we had the studio set up, we thought it might be fun to do some more artsy portraits at the same time. She wanted to get fancy, wearing a stunning corseted dress that worked perfectly with the black and white portraits we wanted to capture.
I’ve gotten to know Doris well as both as a member of the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce and as mutual members of PNA NW. She’s an amazingly kind and caring individual with a quick wit and quicker smile.
Kindness and caring have always come naturally for her. After a 20-year career in nursing, she now helps others escape the daily stress and mental fatigue by creating a line of herbal oils and teas.
“In 2020, I learned how to make herbal body oils,” she says. “St John’s Wort oil was my first oil, and the fates knew I needed that in my life.”
Since her first foray into making herbal oils and teas, she’s expanded into a small business called Moonshine Wellness, where she ships her products from her setup in Shoreline.
In addition to her herbal medicines, she uses her many years of nursing experience and research to help other nurses and nurse practitioners help process or avoid burnout in the profession. She offers weekly support groups and monthly classes on how to acknowledge that signs of burnout and what to do when you are experiencing them.
“As nurses, we impact a lot of people’s lives positively, but we don’t always think about how their trauma impacts our lives. I’m on a mission to help healthcare workers escape burnout without feeling like they have to quit their career they’ve worked so hard to create.”
She is quickly becoming a well-known expert in the field of burnout, lending her knowledge and experience to the corporate world as well. You can learn more about Doris, her story, and her classes on her website, www.moonshinewellnesspnw.com.
